JOAN SORDS

Joan L. Sords, age 85, of Avon, Ohio passed away on December 11, 2024. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 8, 1939, to the late Robert and Marguerite Clifford. Joan and Mike raised their children in Bay Village, Ohio and moved to Peachtree City, GA in 1988. She obtained a job in the real estate industry from which she retired. Prior to working in real estate, Joan was a second-grade teacher at St. Christopher’s in Rocky River, Ohio and St. Bernadette in Westlake, Ohio. She later became a substitute teacher and enjoyed coaching her children’s sports. She played in a weekly volleyball league and mastered the sport of racquetball. Joan was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time on the golf course with her friends and was a regular volunteer at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, Georgia. She became a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Avon Lake, Ohio when she moved back to Ohio in 2021.

Her Husband of 52 years Michael J. Sords passed away in 2013. She is survived by three daughters, Colleen Flanagan (Glenn), Sheila Lowe and Kathy Wissel (Jim); two sons, Mike Sords (Shelly), Terry Sords (Sonya); nine grandchildren: Hunter Sords, Kinsey Gcabshe, Patricia Flanagan, Patrick Flanagan, Sean Flanagan, Tara Field, Kari Lowe, Noah Wissel and Cameron Wissel: and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Bill Clifford and one sister Jane Romeo.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday December 21st from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Christophers Church, 20141 Detroit Rd. Rocky River, OH 44116  and the funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio.
